Sheilah Winn Shakespeare Regionals 2018
The Kapiti regionals for the Sheilah Winn Shakespeare Festival 2018 are to be held at Paraparaumu College this year, on Saturday the 7th of April. For those who don’t know, this event is a competition between schools in the Kapiti region, who will perform extracts of the famous works of William Shakespeare. Students from Paraparaumu College, Aotea College, Kāpiti College, Horowhenua College and Tawa College will be performing.
Many of these works are student directed and will take on a different interpretation of the original pieces. Plays performed last around 5-15 minutes each, and those performing get the chances to win a number of different prizes. The best acts from regions all around New Zealand will then proceed to compete at nationals.
Tickets can be bought at the door and cost $2 for a student and $5 for an adult. If you are performing in the competition or are a director for one or more of the pieces, entry is free of cost.
The event starts at 2 pm and runs through roughly three and a half hours of performances, plus an award ceremony at the end. You can arrive and leave at the event at any time but we strongly recommend staying the whole time – you won’t regret it!
Attending the competition is a truly great way to see the extraordinary works and talent of young students all over the Kapiti region.
Last year, the event was held at Kapiti College. A variety of different acts filled the stage, keeping the audience engaged and entertained the whole day through. We can expect to see a performance at the same level again this year.
